Despite the unseasonably cool weather on May 20, we had a good turnout of regular players for all games this week.
After two weeks of play, the only team undefeated is Boomers, which has two wins and no losses. There are five teams with records of two wins and one loss. While eight teams have now played three games each, four teams are still in ‘catchup’ mode and have played only two games each.
There are some fair indications that, overall, we may have some good competitive balance in the league this year. On May 13, two games were decided by only one run while another two games were decided by two runs. Likewise, on May 20, three games were decided by one run and one additional game by one run. This means that 50% of all games played this year were decided by two or fewer runs.
A couple of important on-field reminders for everyone:
• Please remain off fields while they are in the process of being lined.
• Please respect all rules in place to speed up play, including:
• being in the batter’s box with a bat in hand while you are the ‘on deck’ batter, and not coaching a base or in the dugout;
• moving quickly on and off the field at the conclusion of an inning;
• replacing a pitcher when he/she is the ‘on deck’ batter and not waiting until it is his/her time at bat.
Our first sponsored lunch is at KS on The Keys (1029 Daze St.) following the games on May 27. Please make every reasonably effort to come out to lunch and support our sponsor.
