• Halfway Mark in Regular Season
We have now passed the halfway point of the regular season. Defalco’s and Boomers, with 7 wins each, sit in first place in their respective divisions.
After a few weeks of departure from our normal Tuesday morning schedule, we can now settle in (weather permitting!) for the remainder of the summer into playing exclusively on Tuesdays.
• Next Sponsored Lunch – Chances R
Please note that our next sponsored lunch will take place at Chances R Restaurant following the games on July 29. The restaurant’s address is 1365 Woodroffe Ave., It is just a half mile or so south of the Woodroffe exit off the Queensway. Please let your captain know if you plan to attend.
• Let’s Be Kind and Watch Out for Each Other Around The Bases
We use special bags at 1st base to help prevent collisions between runners and infielders. As everyone knows, runners are to head for and touch the orange portion of 1st base after striking the ball, unless the hit is clearly for extra bases. The infielder is to touch the white portion of the bag. Despite this safety precaution, sometimes close plays at 1st base have resulted in unintended contact between runner and infielder. Please remember that, as seniors, we are a vulnerable group. Injury can happen very easily.
We are asking that runners and fielders do everything they can to avoid contact, even if this means slowing up a bit on a close play and ceding the base to your opponent. This ‘safety over competitive play’ mindset should be the golden rule for our league and govern other situations such as close plays at other bases, including home plate.
